IEM Cologne’s Play-in is in full swing, and just before the showdown between Astralis and Liquid, Banks invited the star players of both teams, Nicolai ‘device’ Reedtz and Keith ‘NAF’ Markovic, to talk about their feelings regarding the upcoming match. Below is the full interview:
Q: The clash between Astralis and Liquid brings back memories of your teams battling for supremacy in 2018-2019. NAF, you secured the championship in Cologne in 2019. How intense was the competition between Liquid and Astralis during that time?
NAF: I wouldn’t say the competition was extremely intense; most of the matches were quite one-sided (laughs). But to be honest, our games against Astralis were always enjoyable. The scores were often close, and Astralis consistently found ways to secure victories. Looking back, those matches were quite intriguing.
device: Indeed, I believe Liquid’s presence made us feel the sense of crisis and drove Astralis to become even stronger. In that sense, we should thank Liquid for being such strong competitors and motivating Astralis to move forward.
Q: Device, although you took a break for a while, your performance data suggests that you never really left the team. Your individual level remains as high as ever. How did you manage to maintain such consistency?
device: Yes, I feel that compared to before, I now enjoy the game even more. I am glad to have had the opportunity to take some time off and come back with renewed energy. It’s my lifestyle, and NAF knows that maintaining peak performance is not an easy task, especially when you live in North America. So, I’m happy to return; it was my personal choice.
Q: NAF, you have been with Liquid for quite a long time. Throughout this period, you have made changes in playstyle and position, yet you consistently maintain a stable individual performance. How do you manage to achieve that?
NAF: I’m not quite sure, to be honest. I try not to overthink things and just stay confident. I think device can relate to this; without confidence, you can’t reach the heights we are at now. Additionally, it’s about enjoying the game, following your heart, and that’s about it.
