With CSGO’s ups and downs over the years, weapon skins have also fluctuated in the market. However, compared to the unstable income from opening loot boxes, the boxes themselves have become a hard currency in CSGO and their price has been slowly increasing.

Valve has changed the way loot boxes are dropped, causing prices and rarity to increase

Many players may occasionally receive crates, as although the returns are small, it doesn’t cost them anything. However, Gabe Newell, the CEO of Valve Corporation, pays a lot of attention to things that affect the market, despite not caring much about CSGO esports. Yesterday, Valve added a “small patch” to the CS2 update: crates will now only drop upon leveling up, and only on servers with VAC certification owned by Valve. Also, each account is limited to two crates per week, but only one of them is a guaranteed drop, while the second item will be affected by pure chance (pseudo-randomness). This is clearly an attempt to eliminate AFK farming on community servers that allow crate drops.

Although many crate traders have found new AFK farming methods, fundamentally, the reduction in the way crates are dropped has led to an increase in their price.
